PTO Meetings/Minutes

During the school year, meetings are alternated between the second Thursday and Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM (unless otherwise announced via e-mail or letter sent home).  We meet at the school.

If you want something added to the agenda, please let the PTO president know before the next meeting.

PTO MEETING APRIL 9, 2008

THE AUCTION- Matthew Burger reported that we have a total of 106 lots valued at over $7,000. We have 54 items that have a value of $1,000 with no assignment. They will be put into packages. CASH DONATIONS total $1,644.00 to date.

The updated list of items is out. Let Rhonda Burger know ASAP when you get donations. For the DMA auction, we could use time or skill donations from the parents, there is already a Dinner and a Breakfast with the Children’s House teacher’s planned.

The week prior to the Auction, we will have a Silent Auction for DMA and parents, much like last year’s.

Betthauser’s was not available so, we will have a part Silent, Part Live Auction.

Staffing Needs For the Event: 2 runners, 1 caller (have a volunteer already), 2 people to man the registration/cashier station (Aracelly will oversee it), we need people to help for set-up on Monday for the first part of the auction at school, and on Saturday, the day of the Auction at the Marion Center.

At the Marion Center, there will be a $2 registration fee which is standard for Auctions. There is discussion about waiving this fee for DMA parents and staff. Aracelly is checking into the cost of having a credit card slider. To register for the event, you will need a Driver’s License. We will allow cash/checks.

Advertising for event- Rhonda put some in free publications. We are going to have a letter that parents can use to send to their families. Enticing items will be described. Becky Lang is doing a Press Release to the Journal/Sentinel. A banner will be made and displayed at DMA and possibly, the Marion Center. Signs will be made to use on your front lawns (Heather thought she could help). We will also create an auction page for the DMA web site. FAMILIES- In order to make this event successful, it is very important to spread the word to your families and friends. Flyers still need to be done to put in area businesses.

APRIL 30 IS THE DEADLINE FOR ALL ITEMS.

Parents-   Do you have baskets/containers around your house? Please bring them in so that we can create baskets. We need someone to take pictures for the web site.

We appreciate ALL donations. If you have something that you never used or never opened, bring it! Think of businesses/people you know who do something that people would like: Spanish Lessons, Gardening Lessons, A wine-tasting party, a never-opened DVD, a new set of golf balls, A Handy-Man day, A barbeque at your house (this is a great idea for getting to know other DMA families)

The funds from the auction will go toward the needs of the new adolescent program, the playground/outdoor play space expansion and for PTO operations.

Spring Brewer’s Game: The date for the DMA family Brewers Game is Sunday, June 1 at 1pm. Flyers have gone out to all parents this week. The $20 includes ticket and food for tailgating. Last year this was a really fun event. Parents need to turn in money and slips by April 28th.

Girl Scouts: Veronica Rusnak is a girl scout leader apprentice who wants to bring the troupe to DMA. Currently, it is at Dover. She would bring Dover girls to DMA. We would need an assistant leader because two registered Girl Scout leaders must be at the meetings. If you are interested in becoming a leader so we can bring a Brownie & Girl Scout Troop to DMA (6-8 year-olds and 8-11 year olds) , please email pto@downtownmontessori.com or leave a note in the PTO mailbox.

Volunteer Report- Rhonda    The main idea behind being a volunteer is to get involved in your children’s education.

Thank you to all who have turned in their 4-hour sheets, and who’ve updated me with the hours they have volunteered. 47 parents have met their 4 hour commitment already. The school can report 763.5 hours of parent volunteering. I am still missing 30  4-hour sheets from parents who have been contacted last month.

Volunteers needed for Auction: getting donations, helping with set-up of DMA auction, and Working the Auction on May 10. There are plenty of things that we need help with. They can be done at various times of the day and week. We hope to get enough volunteers to work 1 hour at the auction so that no one will have to work the entire auction.

Volunteers needed for lower elementary to help with cross stitch, needlepoint or knit/crochet…please contact Mary Host.

Any questions, contact Rhonda at volunteer@downtownmontessori.com or, call her (number is in school’s directory).
